Physical Wellbeing is usually the first thing we think of when we think about health. Physical wellbeing relates to our body, what we do to take care of it, including what we eat and how we keep fit.

We don’t often think about our bodies until something goes wrong, but by finding the activities that feel right for you can make a huge difference to staying well. Having a healthy body means you are equipped to deal with the challenges of everyday life, fight off illnesses and function well, allowing you to do the things you want to do.

Going off to the gym is not for everyone, nor is it the only way to keep physically well. We can keep fit from daily activities like walking, choosing the right balance of foods, dancing, gardening, cycling or playing games. If you have ever wondered what was available to you in your local community that could help change your physical health for the better. Here are a few suggestions.

Leisure Centres

Ever wanted to be part of a gym where you could be surrounded by all the facilities that help you keep fit & healthy? Well in Hackney we have a range of leisure centres that offer just that. Each centre has its specialty and different facilities.

Exercise Referral Scheme

Leisure centres are here to help! If you are suffering from, diabetes; ME; MS; back problems; weight problems; anxiety; stroke; or a range of other health problems that you think exercise might help you to manage better, then go along to your GP or other health professional and ask for an Exercise Referral. This will allow you free or low costs access to most of the leisure centres in Hackney. They run a specific programme of activities that are catered for those with health problems and you get access to a personal trainer who can set up a programme specifically for you.
